The proposal is for an offshore exploration drilling programme for petroleum within permit areas EP 341 and EP 364 which lie offshore and to the north east of the town of Onslow. This proposal seeks environmental approval for the drilling of an unspecified number of exploration wells within the permit areas. The proposal is for an iron ore mining operation at Marandoo, 35 kilometres east-north-east of the town of Tom Price, in an enclave within Karijini National Park, and a railway line from the existing Paraburdoo-Dampier railway line, to service Marandoo. The proposal is to collect an existing backlog of waste polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorinated pesticides which are stored at various centres in Western Australia and export them to the United Kingdom for destruction by high temperature incineration at the Rechem facilities at Fawley and Pontypool.
