Long-term shellsand dredging, Owen Anchorage

Project
Proposal description

This proposal is for the first of two stages of long-term shellsand dredging,  involving the continuation of shellsand extraction from specific locations on Success Bank, Parmelia Bank and West Success Bank, Owen Anchorage.

Stage 1, as proposed, would create a 1.5km wide by 15m deep seaway through Success and Parmelia Banks by 2014. This stage would require the removal of 168.5ha of seagrass and 264.5ha of shallow bare sand, which can be potential seagrass habitat, to recover 30 million tonnes (mt) of shellsand.
