The proposal is for the extension of an existing quarry at The Lakes, approximately 16 kilometres east of Mundaring and 47 kilometres south-west of Northam on the Great Southern Highway. The proponent has been operating the existing quarry since 1990. The quarry provides crushed granite for a variety of uses, including concrete, road base and building products. The current quarry comprises an open pit, a crushing plant, noise attenuation bunds, product stockpiles, a water supply dam, a workshop, fuel storage facilities, office facilities, amenities and a weighbridge. The operation has a nominal rated throughput of approximately 900,000 tonnes per annum (tpa).
