Waste Disposal - PCB Incinerator, Koolyanobbing

Project
Proposal description

The proposal is to incinerate approximately 1,000 tonnes of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PGBs), over a 3-5 year period, at a waste disposal facility to be located in the proximity of Koolyanobbing, approximately 53 km north of Southern Cross.

The proposal consists of transporting the PCBs from storage and handling facilities in Perth and the Pilbara to the incinerator site at an abandoned hard rock quarry near Koolyanobbing, a former mining town currently inhabitated by two caretakers and their families.

Note: The proposal was withdrawn on 30 November 1987.
